SWORDS OF THE EQUINOX By Eugenia Macer-Story** SWORDS
OF THE EQUINOX is a poetical mummers play in the international tradition
of short dramatic demonstrations of a spirit appearing to rescue a
traveling scholar or monk in danger. This type of play was performed as
part of larger festivals and community events, just like the present New
Life Expo and the style is a free-wheeling but scripted style which
allows it to fit with a larger event. This
same type of play is found in the British Isles, Japan, India, Tibet,
Korea, China, Africa, Indonesia and just about everywhere else you can
imagine. Certain scholars believe that the classic Greek drama evolved
from this type of play as more community members took part in the
choruses and lead roles. The
character of KENDRA CASANOVA, the supernatural appearance, is based on
Celtic and Minoan tales of the voyagers who built the monuments of
Stonehenge and also left their traces in unexplained , ancient
structures throughout New England and both North and South America. THE
VIDEO LASTS 42 minutes approximately. The play was performed at This
is not an edited and studio-cut video. This is documentary stuff shot by
a member of the audience who had never seen the show before but has an
interest in performance art. Therefore, full length shots of the
performers are slightly distorted at times because taken from the left
side of the room and below the action. The camera work on the second
performance is slightly better than the camera work on the first
performance. Likewise, since most of the audience was sitting directly
behind the cameraman there is the illusion on certain shots of empty
chairs only in the function room. This is contradicted by the hearty
applause after each performance. Enjoy!
